TEHRAN (ISNA)- An Iranian official said the country produced roughly 60 million tons cement over the last Iranian calendar year (started on March 21, 2014).
Iran exports 80 percent of its cement to Iraq, said a member of Iran’s Cement Industries Association Board of Directors Shahriar Geravandi.
Iran produced 60 million tons of cement last year, 18 million tons of which were exported and the remaining was used inside the country.
Cement includes 10 percent of Iran’s whole exports, he said, adding Iraq is the biggest client for the Iranian product. “80 percent of Iran’s exported cement goes to Iraq.”
He added that Iran is seeking new markets for the product besides Iraq.
Iran’s cement is the best type in the world, he said, adding now there are 68 cement producing units working in Iran.
Earlier in January, Iran’s Ministry of Industries and Mines said the country’s cement and clinker exports have surpassed 14.5 million tons in the first nine months of the past Iranian calendar year (started March 21).
The report said 68.7% of the exports were cement and the rest were clinker.
The report added that the country has produced a total of over 51.6 million tons of cement in the same period.
Iran exports cement to some two dozen countries including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the UAE, Georgia, Oman, India, and China.
